Humanitarian Organization Panel: “Men and Women for Others”

Moderator: Kelly Ryan, Moderator Participants: Charles MacCormack is currently Executive Chair of the Millennium Development Goals Health Alliance, Senior Fellow at Interaction and Executive in Residence at Middlebury College. He served as President and CEO of Save the Children from 1993 to 2012, and President of World Learning from 1977 to 1993. He also served as Board Chair of Interaction and the International Exchange Association, and is currently on the Board of The Center for Faith and Public Life at Fairfield University. Maria Isabel (Mari) Barboza is the CRS Program Officer for the Northeast Mid-Atlantic. In her role, she collaborates with Catholic institutions to raise awareness on global issues and promote global solidarity. Mari began her career with CRS in 2000, as a Project Manager in Kenya and Zambia and worked in projects ranging from emergency response and HIV to peace building. She served as the Regional Technical Advisor for Human Rights and Peace Building for Latin America and as Program Officer for Global Solidarity Partnerships Unit in Baltimore where she facilitated relationships between U.S. and overseas dioceses. Before joining CRS, Mari worked for the Inter-American Foundation and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala Mari received her B.A. in Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and her M.A. in International Relations from the John’s Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies in Washington D.C. Obadias Ndaba is from Rwanda, and is the youngest of five children. He was introduced to the World Youth Alliance in 2006 while studying Economics at Kigali Independent University where he graduated with Honors in 2009. Obadias began his work with the World Youth Alliance by volunteering his weekends to organize WYA activities and hosting discussions on WYA\u27s core ideas. Obadias worked for KCB Bank and Inkingi Microfinance prior to joining WYA full time. He speaks Kinyarwanda, Swahili, French and English. Amanda Pirih attended the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign where she received a Bachelors of Science in Materials Science and Engineering. She completed three technical engineering internships throughout her college career in companies such as Motorola and General Electric. However, Amanda made the decision upon graduation to commit three years of service before starting her professional career. Serving with FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, she has worked as a missionary to train future leaders on the college campuses of Seton Hall University, and as a Director for the programs at the University of Illinois-Chicago and New York University. John Keys is the IRC’s Senior Vice President of Programs and oversees the agency’s programs in 42 countries and the United States. John joined the IRC in 1995 as the Country Director for the IRC’s programs in Rwanda. He has also served as the IRC’s Regional Director for the Great Lakes region in Africa, and as the Africa Director. He has over twenty years of international development and relief experience. Before joining the IRC, John spent four years as a Country Director for the American Refugee Committee. He lived and worked in Africa for 14 years, with extended assignments in Rwanda, Malawi and Togo. John earned his Bachelor’s degree from New York University, graduated from the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, and served four years in the Peace Corps. Vicky Banks grew up in the UK and attended Cambridge University, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Theology and Religious Studies. She also has a Masters degree in Public Services Management from the University of Birmingham. Since moving to Boston with her husband in September 2010, she has worked for All Girls Allowed as Volunteer Coordinator and then as Director of Outreach, with primary responsibility for engaging students in the organization’s mission
